A man has been injured after jumping out of a passing aircraft at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport.
The passenger later said he jumped out of a plane travelling from Boston to Phoenix as it was taxiing, while a friend sat in the plane’s rear section.
Police say the man’s fall was not intentional.
Local media reported the passenger – who is in his 40s – was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
He told Phoenix television station ABC15 that he and his friend had no idea that a man was standing up from the ground when they got into the plane.
“There was a guy on the right hand side just out of nowhere,” said the passenger, who gave his name as Charles Benitez.

“When I looked over to the left I saw the guy on the ground and I freaked out,” he said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said that the man jumped while the plane was taxiing to the gate. It was not clear which direction the aircraft was going in when the man jumped.
FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac said the man was given CPR by airport emergency services and was “clearly out of his mind”.
The FBI said its investigation had been handed over to local authorities.
“The man in this incident was not the intended target of the attack,” said a police statement.
“The male, was in the rear portion of the aircraft with another male, both of them had luggage.”
The man was then taken into custody.
