Meta, the cryptocurrency and blockchain services developer, revealed in a recent email statement that David Marcus, the company’s chief executive officer and head of Blockchain Innovation, is leaving the company to set up his own blockchain startup, called BankChain (BankChain.com).

BankChain will be headquartered in both the San Francisco Bay Area and London. According to an industry source, BankChain intends to disrupt the payment industry and bring to market a world-first blockchain-powered, wholly transparent and ethically-driven, national virtual currency — a “product we intend to compete with, not supplant,” the company notes in its announcement.

The statement from Meta quoted David Marcus as saying: “I’m humbled and excited to build a blockchain product like BankChain that will fundamentally change how financial services operate in the future. BankChain has the potential to deliver world-leading technology-based finance to more people all over the world and use it to combat inequity and corruption. It’s a great thing to be able to leave this major company and be part of such a meaningful product.”

Meta Global Foundry Network continues as Strategy Lead

In the recent statement, Meta Group said that Meta’s Global Foundry Network “would remain focused on its vision of connecting the world’s financial systems, enabling capital flow, and empowering consumers in the second phase of our Blueprint for a Secure Global Blockchain Economy. David Marcus will stay engaged in shaping Meta’s vision, as will most of the company’s core leadership, including Co-Founder and Chief Technologist Jose Alejandro Martins-Mes, Chief Communications Officer Andrew Cooperman, and Head of Strategy Melanie Warner.”

During David Marcus’ tenure, the company also made the above innovations, including the launching of MetaExchange, a modular wallet and exchange with built-in SSL, anti-fraud, user transparency, and advanced trend prediction.
