Two men killed in Toronto shooting on Sunday identified

A total of 15 people were injured, five critically, when two men opened fire early Sunday morning in a busy Toronto bar and restaurant, according to reports.

The two shooting victims have been identified as 27-year-old Miroslav Slabos, and 38-year-old Jordan Segura, CBC News reported.

The six-alarm shooting occurred at a Toronto restaurant and bar on Ontario’s busy Danforth strip.

A gunman entered Danforth Avenue Tap House and reportedly began firing a handgun. The shooter then fired at passing motorists, ABC News reported.

Police said they had detained a 22-year-old suspect in connection with the incident.

The suspect is known to police, Toronto police commissioner Mark Saunders said, noting that the suspect and victims appeared to know each other. The suspect was apprehended after engaging police in a foot chase.

Police are asking anyone with video footage from the scene to contact them.

The Danforth strip in Toronto has long been a tourist destination in the north of the city with its myriad eateries and attractions, including an outdoor water slide.

The shooting is the latest in a string of mass shootings in Toronto that have become remarkably commonplace.

Saunders told reporters that there have been 438 reported shots fired in Toronto since 2000, with a particularly high number of incidents during the weekend.

“It happens very often in the early morning hours of the weekend,” Saunders said. “It does escalate very quickly.”
